NUCULA FROM SAN PEDRO.— An arrival in Auckland yesterday was the Admiralty oil tanker Nucula from San Pedro with another supply of fuel oil for the vessels of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. The tanker which is a Royal Fleet auxiliary vessel took on this load of oil at San Pedro and came via Suva to Auckland. She left the Fijian port on Saturday last with the acting flagship of the Division, H.M.S. Diomede, but the cruiser beat her into port by two days. The whole of the voyage from the American port was made in very fair weather until the vessel was two days from New Zealand. Then squally weather was encountered, accompanied by strong cold southerly to south-westerly winds, frequent showers and choppy seas. The Nucula was to have arrived on Wednesday evening, but the weather and the condition of the sea delayed her arrival until 8 a.m. yesterday. Lieutenant A. W. Beardsall, R.N.R., is still in command of the oil tanker and has associated with him the following officers—Chief, Mr. G. Atwood; second, Mr. J. E. Nash; third, Mr. E. M. Foster; chief engineer, Mr. H. R. Bullimen; second, Mr. A. E. Fowlin; third, Mr. A. W. Price; fourth, Mr. G. Williamson; fifth, Mr. G. G. Jamieson; chief steward, Mr. H. Yates; wireless operator, Mr. E. M. Howie. The Nucula’s stay in Auckland this time will be very brief. She berthed alongside the Diomede yesterday to replenish the warship’s supply and will discharge the remainder of her cargo into the Admiralty oil tanks.
