COUNT Water Board Lost MAYOR’S LEAD INCREASED Recounts conducted officially and completed yesterday showed several alterations, the features being the increase in the city mayoralty majority of Mr. G. Baildon, ard the increased number of votes for Mr. M. E. Thompson gave him a seat on the Waitemata Power Board, Mr. E. C. Walton falling two places, the top of the unsuccessful list now going to Mr. O. Moller. Mr. A. P. Haslam lost his seat at Avondale. The large error in the count was not due to mistake in the first count, but to an error in transmitting the results over the telephone. The number of informal votes was 431, mostly due to leaving too many names on the paper. CITY MAYORALTY The official recount in the city mayoralty increased Mr. Baildon’s total by 143 and Mr. Bloodworth’s by 22. Mr. Warnock lost 12 and Mr. Schmidt gained 30. The final figures were: Baildon 8.775 Bloodworth 7,189 Warnock 3,254 Schmidt 1,702 Majority for Baildon .. 1,586 Informal 228 A number of declaration votes have yet to be checked. The council recount has been commenced and will probably be completed on Monday. The very large number of informal votes is also due mainly to insufficient names being struck off. AVONDALE ALTERATION The official count of votes in the Avondale Borough Council election has resulted in Mr. W. H. Manning displacing Mr. A. P. Haslam as one of the three representatives of the North Ward. In the provisional count Mr. Haslam was credited with 233 votes and Mr. Manning with 232. Now Mr. Manning has 236 votes and Mr. Haslam 234. Both were new candidates for the council. A CHRISTCHURCH CHANGE BOARD CHAIRMAN RETURNED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. As the result of the amended figures, the retiring chairman of the Hospital Board, Mr. H. J. Otley, has now been declared elected, replacing Mrs. Roberts.
