COME ON, OLD PLAYERS!

The Auckland soccer authorities are faced with a serious position as a result of not having enough referees to control all their matches. Last Saturday, three games had to be abandoned, owing to no referee being available. At the present time referees have to be provided for nearly 60 matches each Saturday, and the present shortage has imposed heavy demands on those available. In some cases, referees have to control two and three matches in an afternoon, and a glance through this week’s fixtures shows two super-enthusi-asts among the Knights of the Whistle, viz., Messrs. C. M. Walker and C. E. Downes, who have four matches to referee to-morrow. A strong appeal is made to old players to come forward and give the game a helping hand by taking over the whistle.
