Loyal Leaguers to Receive Medallion
TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA MEETING OF COUNCIL At the meeting of the New Zealand League Council last evening a letter which was received from the West Coast League strongly protested against the council’s action in disqualifying the seven members of the New Zealand team, without first having had a full public inquiry. , Correspondence was received from the Hamilton and Lower Waikato Leagues, who have amalgamated, stating that the new body wished to be identified as the South Auckland League. It was decided to reply asking the new body to adopt the name Waikato League, so that it would not become confused with the existing South Auckland League.
It was decided to issue a medallion to the 19 players who acted so loyally to the .code during the recent tour of England. The matter of privileges which would be carried with the medallions was deferred for a fortnight, in order that the council may seek the cooperation of the various Leagues with regard to the players being allowed free admission to all grounds. Much discussion took place with reference to a New Zealand team visiting Australia this season, many delegates believing that the representative team which has just returned from England was tour sick, while many would be unavailable were they selected for the trip. A recommendation by Air. E. H. Stallworthy that an invitation be sent the Australian Board of Control to send a team to New Zealand this season was deferred.
