TWO BAD TEMPERS
LEAD TO COURT WIFE ALLEGES CRUELTY LANGUAGE FREE AND LURID (From Our Oven Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. A husband who did not drink nor gamble and played the organ in church was prosecuted by his wife at Hamilton to-day for maintenThe parties were, Grace Lymburn and Ray Alexander Lymburn. The complainant said her husband had been persistently cruel. Since the marriage her husband had given her a little money, but for some time she depended upon neighbours’ charity for food for herself and children. Once her husband had nearly choked her and had threatened to shoot her and himself. Although living in the same house they had not occupied the same room, as he declared that he could not stand her filthy language. He had accused her of infidelity. Once when her husband rushed at her with an upraised fist she took up a knife and made a lunga at a window, smashing it. He had ordered her out of the house and treated her very roughly. The applicant said her husband played the organ at church. She did not object to that, and was proud of the fact. Pie did not drink nor gamble, but she did not know what he did with his money. She admitted that she swore at him when he swore at her. “I dont mind him being master, but he’s not going to abuse me,” she said, admitting that when attacked she fought him back. She had been goaded by her husband. The application was refused, the magistrate remarking that there was a display of temper on both sides.
