ATHLETES ALL
THE LOWRY FAMILY GREAT RECORD IN SPORT J. N. Lowry, a brother of New Zealand’s cricket captain, wound up the tennis season in good style by going to the final of the Hawke’s Bay championships at Easter. He was beaten by E. D. Andrews, who has mastered him several times, and was too accurate for the impetuous Hawke’s Bay man. At Cambridge University Lowry was captain of tennis, and led an Ov-ford-Cambridge team in America on two occasions. * * * The Lowry family has won distinction in many games. Mr. T. H. Lowry, head of the family, was captain of one of Hawke’s' Bay’s first Rugby teams, and is well-known on the turf, where his famous mare, Desert Gold made racing history. Of his three sons, T.C. won a cricket blue, J.N. a tennis blue, and R.H. a Rugby blue at Cambridge University. Miss M. Lowry, one of the two daughters—the other married A. P. F. Chapman—is one of New Zealand’s finest lady golfers, and an equally good tennis player. With her father and mother she left Auckland by the Aorangi last Tuesday to follow brother Tom and his merry men on their cricket tour in England.
