MISSIONARY’S DEATH
AUCKLANDER IN SOLOMONS STRICKEN BY FEVER A wireless message received from the Roriana Methodist Mission station, Solomon Islands, reports the death of Mrs. Gladys Margaret Chivers. Mrs. Chivers, who before her marriage was a Miss Blayney, of Devonport, was 33 years of age at the time of her death. She has long been connected with Methodist missionary work, and in 1922, three months after her marriage to Mr. Chivers, she and her husband left for the mission field, and were stationed at Roviana, Solomon Islands. They were members of the first party of five to go from the Dominion after the New Zealand church took full control of the Solomon field. They were on furlough in New Zealand last year. . On returning to the mission station malarial fever seriously attacked them and their baby son. Arrangements had been made for their return, but advice was received on Wednesday that Mrs. Chivers died of Blackwater fever on April 7. Mr. Chivers and his little boy are believed to have just left the islands for home.
