BUTTER LOSSES
ADVERSE FACTORS RECLAMATIONS QUESTION Press Association " ELLIXGTONJ tk One of the factors th,, ated very definitely to redact of advances this season ,"' ** “Dairy Produce Exporter ’’’h,,, tionably been the necessity' , upon merchants of securing Po *'< tion from dairy of over-advances made on la,, dairy produce and increased T** storing policy adopted bt , ttf tories. The effect of this has make merchants specially ca„« ' advances this season. Uota ic REPAYMENTS OF £50.000 Details available of the ments made for the repavmen, vlB- - of last season’s ‘ - through the Dairy Board season's advances show that lt; - sum of not less than .£50,000‘ repaid by factories. The J be actually greater than thiiT**’ some factories have not realties .“* upon the Dairy Board's facMm® 1 repayments. Twenty-six comk are, however, paying reclanSSS?*? merchants through the Dairv blulm J' assigning a portion of this sSh 1 ' advances for repayments to the merchants concerned. In some cases the repay ments made by the one company to tvrn * more merchants—in two cases V three separate merchants, involvin'* amount of 3d per lb. butter-fat out # this season’s advance. The anioiim' falling upon individual companies In one case the. total goes as hieh?,' approximately £12.000, and in otbp! cases to the neighbourhood of to £7,000. The factories princiD&rconcerned have been butter factohe and not cheese factories. ANOTHER ADVERSE FACTOR Another factor affecting the positic. of advances on this season’s product was the quantity of last season’s st w < produce that was carried over into th< early stages of this season. Thf measure of finance involved in tha; holding naturally affected the liquid capital available for this season's ness, and to that extent imposed & greater restraint upon the Toolev Street houses in facing this season. ' In negotiations with the Tooler Street importers the board throughout has strongly contended that it has be«n most unfair for this season to be penalised because of the position obtaining last season. One effect, however, is that the margin between advances and realisations is now greater than in any previous season, which means that the money coming on ultimate realisation will be greater than has usually been the case. There will be no delay in making such further payments to factories as the surpluses become available.
