EAST TAMAKI BRIDGE
NO BENEFIT TO PAPATOETOE The opinion that the proposed East Tamaki Bridge would be of no benefit to Papatoetoe was expressed at a meeting of ratepayers in the Papatoetoe Town Hall last evening. Mr. A. W. Hall, chairman of the Town Board, presided. Mr. Hall said the board had received notification that it was proposed it should bear 10 per cent, of the bridge. He understood the proposed commission would first decide whether the bridge was necessary and then proceed to allocate the cost. He would assure ratepayers that Papatoetoe would be represented at the commission in order that its interests might be protected. Dr. A B. Jameson, chairman of the Papatoetoe Progressive League, agreed that the district would derive no benefit from the erection of a bridge as proposed. A resolution was passed disapproving of any contribution by the town district toward the cost of the bridge and asking for the support of the town board in the matter. The point that Papatoetoe ratepayers, though disinterested, were not antagonistic to the building of a bridge was emphasised.
