SYDNEY THOUSAND
STILL IN THE BALANCE RAIN INTERVENES “Man proposes and the weather disposes” is a phrase that can be applied just now in connection with the Sydney Thousand This importan: event, which is the greatest in the light harness world of Sydney, was scheduled for Easter Tuesday, but had to be postponed on account of the excessive rain. A later date was arranged, but owing to the third day of the A..C. Autumn racing fixture belnc put back, also on account of stress o: weather, the trotting promoters were again compelled to abandon the second choice of a date, and it was anticipated that the thousand pound prize wou’/. be competed for toward the end of the present week. A good deal of interest is bein? taken in the big Sydney event by ardent followers of the light harness sport in New Zealand, and it is anticipated that Auto Machine, Stroller and Machine Brick, performers wellknown on this side of the water, will take their place in the field. From latest reports to hand, Mirralwood was the ruling favourite, but there was plenty of support for Harold Pronto, Western King, Isabel Wilkes, while in certain circles Ribbonwood’s Last an: Machine Brick's chances were held in high regard. It is probable, owing to the large field engaged, that the richly endowed contest will be run in two divisions, and the trotting authority in the Sydney “Referee’’ has - strong leaning to Mirralwood and Ritbon wood’s Last for the respective heats.
