BUILDERS’ STRIKE
BLOW AGAINST PLUMBERS NEW YORK INDUSTRIAL STRIFE By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright NEW YORK, Wednesday. A lock-out in the city of New York which immediately affects 10,000 plumbers and their assistants was ordered to-day by the Building Trades Employers’ Association. This action threatens to bring to a standstill construction work now going on in the city involving an expenditure of £20,000,000. The lock-out is a sequel to the strike of plumbers on April 1. It is designed to bring pressure to bear on the Brooklyn strikers. It is estimated that if the lock-out continues in force for one month it will throw 700,000 men out of work in other branches of the building trade. The Brooklyn strikers have demanded increased wages, three-years’ contracts, and an agreement that the granting of an increase in wages to one local branch of the union shall automatically be applied to workers in other local branches after 90 days. —A. and N.Z.
