RETURNED SOLDIERS

ANNUAL MEETING YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED The annual meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening, Mr. S. Austin Carr presiding over a large attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman stated that the association was deeply indebted to the Repatriation Committee for its assistance in enabling them to keep their rooms open. The Auckland Patriotic Association had also been very generous, financial assistance given enabling the association to do a great deal of good work in connection with unemployment affecting the R.S.A. Referring to Poppy Day, the chairman said that the sale of poppies had realised £1,738, being £2OO more than was collected last year. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. S. C. Reid; vice-presidents. Messrs. A. C. A~ Sexton, E. W. Inder and S. Austin Carr; hon. treasurer, Mr. T. S. Miller; auditor, Mr. E. J. F. Kennedy; executive committee, Messrs. G. Rothery, H. M. White, R. G. Milligan, F. M. Cox, J. W. Kendall, L. Lloyd, J. Lee, T. S. Miller, V. T. Dibble, W. G. Camp. K. C. Jorgensen, E. L. Thwaites; delegates Dominion Executive, Messrs. S. C. Reid, R. G. Milligan and E. H. Sharp. WAR FUNDS Referring to the question of war funds, the chairman said he thought the time had arrived when some of the interest derived from the war ■council and canteen funds should be handed to the R.S.A. branches. He considered that the forthcoming winter would be a very hard one, and with I heavy calls for aid probably arising some assistance would be necessary. It was resolved that the Dominion Conference be asked to recommend the war council fund board and the canteen board to distribute in the form of relief portions of those funds, preferably the war council funds. A hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. j Campbell and her lady helpers in connection with the Poppy Day collection carried by acclamation.
