The difficulties of the settlers on Hauraki Plains are to be inquired into by Mr. Hedgers, Land Purchase Controller, and Mr. Thompson, Undersecretary for Lands, who have been instructed by the Hon. A. D. McLeod to visit the Oronga soldiers’ settlement and other settlers while the Minister a in Australia. This action results from representations made during the recent visit of the Hons. McLeod and Williams to Hauraki. While Mr. is away, the Hon. 0. J. Hawken will take charge of the Linds portfolio, but Industries and Commerce have not yet been allocated.
