ABOLISHING THE WHIP The well-known Melbourne owner, Mr. Sol Green, recently disposed of the good-looking Coogee Bay because the Cooltrim horse did not quite come up to his requirements. Mr. Green is convinced that Cogee Bay and his Martian gelding, Mars (from Bronze), for which he paid 2,000 guineas at the Koatanui, Wanganui, stud sale), were soured by the use on them of the whip when they were young. He has therefore determined that in future jockeys shall not be permitted to carry a whip when riding his juveniles. In doing this, Mr. Green has followed the practice which is officially required in India, where, during the last year or two a regulation has been in force prohibiting the whip in two-year-old races.
