LURID ALLEGATIONS AT DUNEDIN MEETING

OTAGO LEAGUE’S TROUBLES Press Association DUNEDIN, Wednesday. An extraordinary general meeting of the Otago Rugby League was held tonight to reconsider the deliberations of the annual meeting, at which prominent officials were rejected. At the outset the chairman, Mr. J. T. Cooper, refused to allow discussion of these subjects. Legal opinion, he said, had convinced him that the meeting was out of order, chid could only discuss the last clause of the advertised business of the meeting regarding the revision of rules. ‘ Mr. M. 11. Seddon rhoved that the chairman’s ruling be not sustained. Uproar followed. The chairman refused to put the motion. Mr. H. Divers (late secretary) suggested that the chairman should vacate the chair while the motion was being discussed. The chairman, however, declined to move from his position. Mr. T. Gillies moved the appointment of a committee to consider the revision of the rules, and a host of speakers to the motion used the opportunity to speak of “hole and corner business,” “dirty work,” “packed meetings,” and many obscure allegations and inuendoes were made. After equal voting on a motion to go into committee, the casting vote of the chairman decided the issue in favour of going into committee. The meeting closed in disorder.
