“IT WAS A MISTAKE”

WITNESS REBUKED BARNETT CASE CONTINUES By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 11.15 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday Hearing was continued in the case in which William E. Barnett, a gas engineer, claimed damages from William Coward and Company alleging that he had been improperly induced to make a voyage to New Zealand. Barnett admitted to-day that he sold his house in Bournemouth before he approached Cowards regarding the Nelson appointment. Judge McCardie pointed out that he had previously said he sold the house to take up his promised post. That was therefore a falsehood. Barnett apologised. “It was a mistake,” he said.—A. and N.Z.
