Country Store Burned.—About one o’clock yesterday morning the store at Parua Bay was totally destroyed by tire. There was a large stock of groceries, hardware and wearing apparel on the premises. The Water Commission.—The Royal Commission of inquiry into the Auckland water supply will resume its sitting to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. at the Hospital Board’s offices, Kitchener Street Overcoat Theft Charge.—On a charge of stealing an overcoat valued at £5, belonging to Leo Vegar, John Sheahan, aged 40, was remanded until tomorrow, at the Police Court this morning. Motor-Cyclist Hurt.—A motor-cycle ridden by W. Bince skidded on approaching the Papakura railway bridge this morning and striking the kerb threw the rider heavily. He received injuries to his head. Breach of Probation Charge.—Leonard Walter Bartlett, who was charged with a breach of the conditions of his release on probation in the Police Court this morning, was remanded until May 11. Australian Team for Malay States.— tf)ldfleld has received permission from the Board of Cricket Control to take a team for a tour in the Malay States. The team will include Oldfield, Andrews, Macartney, Everett, Jackson, Collins, Woodfull, Mayne, and Gamble. The team will leave on May 3 for Singapore.—A. and N.Z.
Another Section Completed. A further stretch of 25 chains of concrete road will shortly be opened on the Great South Road from Wiri Bridge to the northern end of the Manurewa boundary. This completes the Manukau County Council’s contribution to the long white ribbon with the exception of nine chains immediately to the north of Wiri Bridge.
Proprietary Articles Trade.—The report of the special committee inquiring into the proposed price-cutting operations of the Proprietary Articles Trade Association has been presented to* the Minister of Industries and Commerce, who intends to take an early opportunity of submitting the recommendations to Cabinet. Pending the result of the inquiry, registration of the association has not been proceeded with.
Contractor’s Failure.—To losses incurred on various road contracts entered into was attributed the failure of David Ferguson, contractor, of Papakura, a meeting of whose creditors was held this morning. Bankrupt’s statement showed liabilities £1,202 4s 3d. and assets £6lO 19s, a deficit of t 591 5s 3d. A committee of three was appointed to assist the official assignee in the management of the estate. Austrian Election. —As a result of a general election the return to power °f Dr. Seipel and his Ministry seems 10 be assured. The Social Democrats conducted a vigorous and most costly campaign. They retained the city seats, but could not shake the bourfeois parties in the country. Commercial men are relieved that there is no fear of a Socialist Government.— A. and N.Z. Treatment of T.B.—After the elechon the Hospital Board is to consmer the question of local treatment ror tuberculosis. At last night’s meet«r. J. Rowe suggested that the jmilding committee should make a urther report on the erection of shelers. Mr. j Dempsey: “The whole pi ness wants reviewing.” Mr. M.
