TO STUDY INDUSTRY IN COMMONWEALTH
MR. MCLEOD’S INTENTION (From Our Resident Correspondent.') WELLINGTON, To-day. When the Hon. A. D. McLeod leaves New Zealand on Friday for Australia, he will be accompanied by Mr. L. J. Schmitt, advisory accountant, of the Industries and Commerce Department. This is accepted as an indication that the Minister’s trip is not confined to the formalities of the Parliament opening at Canberra, but will be occupied largely in observation of secondary industrial conditions, and possibly tariff questions. While in the South recently, Mr. McLeod admitted that since the acquisition of the portfolio of Industries and Commerce, he had not become sufficiently acquainted with secondary industries, and he expressed a determination to pursue investigation in this department.
