Infectious Diseases. —“With the exception of a small epidemic of diphtheria in one of the outlying country districts, and a wide-spread epidemic of mumps, there has been no marked increase in the incidence of infectious diseases,” states the medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital in his annual report. Rose’s New Record. —Running at the lire brigade sports at Masterton, R. A. Rose was unsuccessful in an attempt to break the world’s record of 14min 11 l-ssec for the three miles, but he bettered the Australasian record by 15 1-5 sec, his time being 14min 30sec. This is 4 l-ssec faster than the time he recently registered at Wellington. Mayor as Harbour Board Member.— “ I have long believed that the Mayor of Auckland should have a seat on the Harbour Board,” said Mr. T. Bloodworth, in informing fellow members of the Auckland Harbour. Board yesterday that he would meet them tigain in the board room after the election.
