FIRST DAY CONCLUDING RESULTS The autumn fixture of the Avondale Jockey Club was opened at Ellerslie on Saturday under favourable conditions. The weather was fine at the outset but with the programme half through a drizzling rain set in and continued almost without intermission until the end of proceedings. A few minutes after the last race the drizzle became a deluge, and this lasted for some time. The racing was very keen, the two big handicap events providing thrilling finishes, while the classic contest was not without its sensations. The totalisator put through £57,265&, against £68,236 for the opening day of the last autumn gathering, a decrease of £10,970J.
