SPEED LIMITS

A recent remit passed by a combined conference of county councils in Napier suggesting that the speed limit on county roads should be 30 miles an hour was attacked at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Automobile Association. Mr. K. M. Mills, of Dannevirke, considered that the limit was ridiculous, and thought that the association should do all it could to stop it. The chairman, Mr. J. H. Edmundson: “ There are wise people who sit on county councils, make these limits, and do not seem to keep them themselves. To my mind, on a good straight road there should be no limit. A man’s common sense and the safety of the public should be the governing factor.” Members agreed with the sentiments expressed.
