If your self-starter jams, don't send for the garage man until you have tried this “cure”: —Put the gear lever in top. Switch the engine off. Then rock the car backwards and forwards. This treatment will, in most cases, free the starter pinion, but don’t forget to put the gear lever in neutral before you touch the starter again. I have usually found that to put the gear in neutral, and to then turn the engine over (ignition off) with the starting handle will free the selfstarter. However, you may not have a handle.
