The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says a sensation has been caused in financial circles in London by the news that German banks, in co-operation with the leaders of industry, are negotiating with the Soviet Government for granting to the latter commercial credits of between £40,000,000 and £60,000,000. It is believed that the banks will be assisted by a State guarantee to the extent of 60 per cent, of the credits. The credits will be repayable in eight years. The money will be expended in the purchase of German goods.—A. and N.Z.
