MEAT FOR NAVY

SOUTH AMERICA’S CUT EMPIRE PREFERENCE LIKELY By Cable. — Pres3 Association.—Copyright Reed. 8 a.m. LONDON, Friday. The Admiralty has had considerable difficulty in deciding the canned meat contract for naval supplies. It is obvious that South America has severely cut prices, but the Admiralty Department is Impressed by the Press insistence for Dominion preference, and the adverse comment in the House of Commons about the Argentine getting the last contract. The matter has been referred to the supreme head of Admiralty contracts to decide. There is strong hope that Australia »ill finally be favoured.—A. and N.Z.
