DAY OF ADVENTURE

TRUANTS RAID A BUS “TAKE A PULL” SAYS S.M. “Let’s be robbers,” said the truants when they had decided that school was a terribly dull and useless place. They found adventure in the Strand Arcade. Two bicycles stood there; they were rideable bicycles good to see and sit on. “Let’s go!” said the truants. The path of adventure led to Point Chevalier and the bicycles were parked in a side street. A motor-omnibus stood there and the driver had left it for a few minutes. The 14-year-old boy crept up, opened the till in the bus, extracted £1 8s 2d and filled a little flannel bag he was carrying. Just then the driver of the bus came in sight and the truants did not wait to explain that they were having a day of adventure. The motorman followed in ponderous haste, and the lads thought it strategy to drop the booty. This was all explained by Sergeant D. L. Calwell at the Children’s Court to-day, when two boys, 14 and 11-years-old, were charged with theft. “If you don’t take a pull, my lads, you will be in a very serious position.” said Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. “It is a terribly serious thing that you have done. But it is not the damage you do to other people’s property, but to your own selves that we take into account here. I recommend that your father undertake to give you a jolly good hiding.” The mother: They’ve had it! The magistrate (to the boys): Well, I hope it has done you good!
