30 BELOW ZERO Eva Novak, who is Buck Jones’ leading woman in “30 Below Zero,” the Fox Films production which will be shown at the Hippodrome Theatre next Wednesday, started her motion picture career as an extra. Acting was not new in her family. Jane, the older sister, had already made a name for herself on the screen when Eva came to California. School was over for the summer and she and her mother had come to visit their famous relative. While on location one day the director noticed her and finding out she was Jane’s sister, offered her an extra role. That settled Eva’s future. She was determined not to return to school and finally her mother consented that she remain in the West. For two years she played in comedies. Then some Fox officials saw her and she was immediately signed to play opposite Tom Mix. She has been playing leads ever since, both in Westerns and other types of features, but she likes the Westerns better because of the opportunity the offer for action and thrills. In “30 Below Zero” she had many occasions to enjoy her love of stunts for this latest Buck Jones film is filled with new and unexpected thrills. The picture was directed by Robert P. Kerr from an original story by John Stone, with a cast which includes besides Buck Jones and Miss Novak, such well-known names as E. J. Ratcliffe, Frank Butler, Paul Panzer, Harry Woods, Fred Walton, Henry Murdock, and Vincent Howard.
