QUIET CELEBRATION

Received 11 30 a.m. LONDON, Thursday, day 16 utmost Mmplicity characterised Princess Betty’s first birthShe awoke to find herself surrounded by scores of toys, with which she played delightedly. In the afternoon, together with Princess Mary’s sons, she was taken tor a drive in an open carriage through Windsor Park. A big crowd awaited the departure of the carriage from the castle. v\ hen the carriage emerged loud cheers were given for the Princess. On returning there was a quiet family party in the Royal nursery, but there were no special celebrations. Before starting for Cardiff the King and Queen saw Princess - Be tty and wished her many happy returns of the day. The Prince of Wales and Prince George wired their congratulations from the Continent.—A. and N.Z.
