MYSTERIOUS FIRES
CAUSE SETTLERS ANXIETY YOUNG MAN ARRESTED (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, To-day. The mysterious burning of a haystack, valued at £7O, the property of Mr. M. O’Malloran, Pukeatua, on Good Friday, followed by the destruction of some rural mail boxes along the road, have been causing the settlers no little concern. As the result of investigations the police arrested a youth named Alfred James V. Redfern, aged 21, on a charge of arson. He was brought before the local J.P.’s and remanded for a week to enable the police to make further inquiries.
