COLLAPSE OF A SCAFFOLD

INJURED CLERK OF WORKS While inspecting the work of a building in course of construction, Mr. Harry Hill, clerk of the works, received injuries to his arm which necessitated his removal to the Auckland Hospital. Mr. Hill, who is a married man, 50 years of age, living in St. Stephen’s Avenue, was standing on a scaffolding when it collapsed. In an endeavour to save himself from falling Mr. Hill clutched at a post, which gave way. bringing a shower of bricks down with it, one of which struck Mr. Hill on the head. The injured man was conveyed to the hospital, where he underwent a slight operation on his broken arm. On inquiry this morning he was stated to be doing well. The building is a brick structure, which is being erected as a grain, wool and hide store for Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., by Mr. Cornish.
