Professional Billiards. —In the semifinal of the professional billiards championship, Inman has now scored 3,843 and Davis (in play), 3,712. —A. and N.Z.
Japanese Fire.—A fire swept the town of Kanazawa, in the Ishikawa province. There was a high wind blowing and 1,000 houses were destroyed. The damage is estimated at £500,000. It is feared there w'ere many casualties. —A. and N.Z.
British Loan to Russia.—A British shipbuilding concern has approached the chief Concession Committee of the Soviet with an offer of £20,000,000 for long-term credits with which to build mercantile ships for the Soviet. It is understood that the offer is under consideration.—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
Old Resident Passes. —The death occurred on Wednesday evening at the »aikato Hospital of Mr. Edward Cox, a very old resident of Te Awamutu, at the age of 86 years. The late Mr. Cox was of a genial disposition, and had jnany friends. He had been in failing health for many months.
e ®P*ng in Empty House.—Arthur Charles Fowler Gibb, a fresh complexloned man of 30, w r ith several days’ “growth,” was found by the police sleeping in an empty house. When he appeared in court this morning deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond,” he was remanded until next Friday to enable further enquiries to he made.
