FARMERS’ TRAIN
FOR WAIKATO SHOW RAILWAY ENTERPRISE On May 31 a farmers’ excursion train will leave Haw era for Hamilton to enable members of the farming community to visit the Waikato Winter Show. Unlike last year, when a similar train was run from South Auckland and the Waikato to Hawera, a return train will not be run, but farmers will be able to make the journey back to Hawera in their own time. At Marton the train will pick up farmers from the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Hawke's Bay districts. Although the train this year will start from Hawera, the excursion will not be limited to the Taranaki farmers alone. Tickets at cheap rates (single fare, plus 25 per cent.), will be issued to the farmers in the southern part of the North Island, who will be able to join the train at Marton. The train will leave Hawera at 10.40 o’clock on May 31 and will arrive at Hamilton at midnight. The Agricultural Department is co-operat-ing writh the Railway Department and will provide lecturers who will travel on the train and will give advice on farming subjects. This year the department will not run a return train, but passengers may return at any time within 14 days from the date of the issue of the tickets. The committee of the Waikato Winter Show is co-operating with the Railway Department and has undertaken to arrange accommodation for those who desire it.
At present the Railway Department is considering the possibility of running tnree special farmers’ trains in the South Ishi nd.
