STEAMERS BOUGHT
Tramway Plant Excluded New Service Next Week NO CHANGE IN CONCESSIONS Mr. A. E. Alison, manager of the Devonport Steam Ferry Coy., Ltd., announced this afternoon that an agreement had been entered into by his company with the receiver of the debenture-holders in the Takapuna Tramway and Ferry Coy., Ltd., to purchase the whole of the assets of that company, excluding only the tramway track, the locomotives and the tramway rolling stock.
The Devonport Tramway Company proposes to enter into possession about the middle of next week. It will assume control of the new service on Wednesday. The tramways will go out of commission and the land transportation will be by motor-buses.
North Shore residents are assure) by Mr. Alison of an adequate service. Fares will not exceed the existing through rates via Devonport. The same concessions will be granted to Takapuna residents as those residing at Devonport. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
