INFLUX OF SOUTHERNERS EDUCATION BOARD’S RETURNS Among reasons advanced for the unemployment of Auckland school teachers was that Southern teachers were flocking here as if they thought U a “promised land.” The Auckland Education Board prepared a table, comparing the exodus and influx, and It was considered at to-day’s meeting cf the board. The return showed that the followhit" Southern teachers had been appointed to Auckland positions in the lust two years:

17 29 46 The chairman. Mr. A. Burns said there was a growing tendency for Aucklanders to leave the city. There were 29 Southern teachers in excess of those who had left the province. This accounted in a measure for the number of local teachers not in employment. Mr. T. TJ. Wells: I asked for the figures so that if they warranted it the board could re quest the Department of Education to regulate the position. The chairman suggested that the unemployment problem in the South m just as acute as It was In the North. The report was received.
