MISTAKE REMEDIED
TALK OF TENDERS A LETTER IN “THE SUN” MR. BLOODWORTH EXPLAINS “Do you know anything about this ‘maladministration/ mentioned in a letter in THE SUN to-night?” one of the Ponsonby residents asked Mr. T. Bloodworth last evening. The questioner read the following extract from a letter sent to the editor by “suburban Ratepayer”: An evidence of maladministration was reported on the 16th inst. It appears that the City Council accepted a tender for motor lorries and motor hire, which was not the lowest offer, and after a protest from Mr. Delich, the lowest tenderer, the council withdrew their letter of acceptance which the committee reported “had been sent inadvertently.” “It happens that I know a great deal about it,” said the candidate. “The matter was settled by the council and I was a party to the settlement, and in agreement with it. There were mistakes made and I was a party to the remedying of them. It’s not in my province as a candidate for the mayoralty however, to go into a discussion with you.” “This mistake is another reason why there should be a complete overhaul of the machine.’
