THE YEAR’S OPERATIONS The final meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council, held last evening, was attended by the mayor, Mr. J. E. Holmes, Crs. W. U. Timewell, A. D. Jack, A. T. Brainsby, A- M. Rust, E). Meikle, F- Higginson and A. J. McKay. The Hospital Board presented its accotint for £2,600 9s 2d as the council’s proportion of the proposed levy for 1927-28. The amount was approved. Statements were submitted showing the final operations for the past two years. Loans were authorised for the Ladies’ rest room, etc., building, £2,400; western trunk sewer, £2,100; water main deviation, £1,350: Kensington Park conveniences, £350 (authorised by special order). The gross public debt at March 31, 1927, was £304,150; repaid to State Advances Office. £17.495; sinking funds accrued. £10,081: reduction of inscribed loans, £13,472; net public debt, £263,102. Of the gross public debt the special loan rates are collected in respect of only £144,910, the interest and other charges on the bcilance of £159.204. being found out of working accounts, etc. The gross income of the borough for the vear ended March 31, 1927, was £76,440. The rates struck for the two years were as follow: Consolidated rate, 1925-26. s}d; general rate, 1925-26, 2.13/120d: consolidated rate, 1926-27, 6d; general rate, 1926-27, 2.101/120d.
