PUKEKOHE AFFAIRS
MEETING OF COUNCIL (From Our Own'Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, To-day. The Pukekohe Borough Council met on Tuesday evening, the mayor, Mr. John Routly, presiding. The Franklin Electric-power Board advised that the council would be charged power rates for electricity consumed at the old power nouse. The matter of leasing a small area of ground adjacent to the power house was left to the works committee, with power to act. The dedication of Hoey’s Road vai accepted subject to Mrs. Hoey making a payment of £IOO. It was decided to donate £ 1 Is toward the Auckland Hospital wfireles3 fund. Following some discussion the council agreed to enter a protest to the Postmaster-General relative to sightly telephone poles being erected in the borough by the Post and Telegi'aph Department. In connection with the arrival of some 33 Chinese at Auckland last week, after tlfe assurance of the Prime Minister that no further Asiatics would be permitted to land this year, the council resolved to voice its protest tcthe Prime Minister. The recommendation of the works committee to form and lay chips on the Carlton Road footpath was adopted. Complaint was made that a number of persons, particularly Hindus, were in the habit of braking their waggons on the Kitchener Street water channel when descending Pukekohe Hill. The matter was referred to ttys foreman for action.
