Parliament. —Parliament will probably meet for the second session on June 23.

Cigarette-Card Advertising. Fifty typical New Zealand scenes for ciga-rette-cards to advertise the Dominion have been selected by the New Zealand Publicity Department.

Stowaway Remanded. —To enable an officer from the steamer Somerset to be present in court, Amos Staton, a Welshman, aged 41, who was charged this morning with stowing away in the ship at Brisbane on April 15, was remanded until to-morrow.

Proprietary Articles Trade. —The report of the Government tribunal on the operations of the Proprietary Articles Trade Association is expected to be presented to the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Industries and Commerce, at the end of the week.* It will be considered by Cabinet.

Healthy Newmarket. —lt was stated at the annual meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council, held last evening, that Newmarket was practically free from infectious diseases. The record of the past year shows that except for a few cases of influenza., the borough has a clean sheet in this department.

New Variety of Fish. —Large shoals of fish which appeared in Wlyingaruru Harbour last week were of a species hitherto unknown in that locality. A number were captured by trolling, and as their flesh turned a yellow-pink hue when cooked the conclusion was reached that they belonged to the salmon species. Their contour seemed also to corroborate this theory, and it would be of interest to ascertain whether quinnat salmon from southern waters are migrating to northern regions.
