ANOTHER PROTEST
In England, non-smokers are launching a new campaign, and have now equipped themselves with badges announcing their identity to the world at large. “We form at least two-thirds of the entire population,” they say in their manifesto, “but we are treated by the railway, catering and entertainment authorities as if we were a negligible minority.” The badge they have adopted takes the form of a shield bearing the letters N.S.N.S.—National Society of NonSmokers. Members are urged to wear the badge on the ground that it will reinforce them in their complaint of smoking in non-smoking places. The committee is also compiling a white list of restaurants, theatres, cinemas, and other places of entertainment where smoking is prohibited or where adequate provision is made for non-smokers.
They have also decided to make a specially indignant protest against the growth of the smoking habit among clergymen.
