WHEAT VALUES
PRIVATE CONFERENCE HELD ADVANCES ARRANGED Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. At a private conference on the wheat question held last night a number of important resolutions in connection with the problem were carried unanimously.j Mr. W. Machin, as chairman of the Wheat Committee, presided, and there were present nine prominent millers and nine farmers representing the Farmers’ Union of North, South, and Mid-Canterbury. The resolutions carired were: “That it is desirable that some scheme be devised for the purpose of helping the wheat-growing industry at the present time. “That the basic price to be paid by millers to wh .tgrowers for Tuscan be s f.0.b., this being based on flour at £l7 a ton f.0.b., bran £6 a ton f.0.b., pollard £S a ton f.0.b., less usual discounts. This agreed price for wheat to be varied in accordance with the fluctuations of the prices of flour, bran, and pollard. “That against this 6s, or whatever price is eventually determined by the average prices of flour, bran, and pollard, between the present time and December 31, 192, an advance of 5s 3d a bushel be made against all Tuscan wheat purchased, and that settling date for the balance be December 31, 1927, when It is known what has been the average price for the period of the wheat products named.
That a committee be set up to deal with the details of the scheme, and to impress on the Government the necessity for the carrying on" of the Prime Minister's promise to deal with the situation should it be found that a large quantity of Australian flour is being imported, or is likely to be imported.”
