Quite a novel method of making the nimble shillings pass from one pocket to another, and one which players at Middlemore tournament did not fall to quickly enough for their benefit was discovered by R. Rainger. Something encouraged
him to try putting with a green orange from the tree in front of the club house. He kept the results of his trials to himself and putting the orange against a ball generally managed to get his opponents to concede him three holes to start. Also he invariably found the tin with his first putt—and with several others. •
