IN THE RAIN

ELLERSLIE GALLOPS FAIR TIMES RECORDED CIMABUE’S PERFORMANCE Training operations at Kllerslie this morning were carried out in drizzling rain. There were several interesting gallops witnessed on the outside of the course proper, although there was nothing really startling in the way of times. This was only to be expected, for the tracks were a bit holding us a result of the storm during the night. The course proper was open, the trestles being out not quite so far as they were last week. Respirator cut out six furlongs in 1.21, and did it well. A SMART SIX The best six furlongs of the morning was done by Town Guard, ridden by McTavish, who was associated with Cawnpore, W. H. Jones. They cut out the first two in 25 2-5, after which Town Guard went away, and although being allowed to take things rather easily over the last bit he registered 1.17 lor the trip. The Archiestown gelding moved very freely throughout. Cawnpore, who seems to have lost all form, took 1.19 4-5.

Day Guard, McTavish, went over the same ground, keeping wide out, and after cutting out the first three furlongs in 3S 2-5, completed his task in 1.18 4-5.

Ballachulish was not asked to go very fast over seven furlongs, the journey taking 1.40. Haerera, carrying a fair weight, sprinted half a mile in 51 4-5. War Officer was doing it better than Abbey Day and Rina Mangu in a spin over five furlongs from the new post, running the first couple in 26 2-5, and registering 1.5 for the distance. A NICE EFFORT Eden Hall, who shows signs of returning form, proved too good for Lord Star and Miss Vera at the end of a seven-furlongs spin, the pace being on all the way. They cut out the first quarter in 24 1-5, half mile in 51 3-5, and Eden Hall finished easily in front in 1.32 4-5. Mosaic and Mosque came home together from the old five furlongs post in 1- the first two furlongs occupying Nippy and Curraghmore were together all the way in their work from the six furlong post, cutting out the first three in 38 3-5, and the full distance in 1.19 4-5. Le Choucas and Dimmer were not hurried in getting to the end of five furlongs in 1.6, the first two Taking 26 4-5, with the former going much the better. CIMABUE IMPROVING The Leighton youngster continues to improve with the racing and work he is being given, and he went beautifully over five furlongs, proving altogether too good for Welkne and Master Mind, the gallop taking place from the new five. The first furlong was left behind in 13 2-5, the quarter in 25, and the two-year-old came home in great style over the last three furlongs in 38 2- his time being 1.3 2-5. Welkne Yvas two or three lengths away, and Master Mind last. The latter was bleeding when he came in. Archibald went a round on the flat, the last mile being left behind in 1.50. After breakfast The Thorn, Pine, and Covent Garden, W\ H. Jones, came home for the half mile, the time being 50 2-5. Wenday went much better than in her race on Monday when sent six furlongs in company, running the distance in 1.20 3-5. THE FLYING FILLY Jumping off from the seven furlongs, Flying Juliet again made good time, cutting out the first quarter in 24, three furlongs in 38 1-5, half mile in 50 3-5. and completed her task in 1.31 4-5, a smart performance. Whaka King joined her at the five furlongs, but made an indifferent companion, finishing some lengths away. Air Queen, Lady Cintra and Killute had very littTe between them at the end of their seven furlongs flutter, and after negotiating the first two in 25 2-5, finished up their task in 1.34 3-5. Archeno galloped half a mile in 51, and appeared to be going well. Aussie was doing it easy in front of Awarere at the end of five furlongs, the first couple taking 25 1-5, and the full journey 1.4 1-5, a useful effort. Oreum ran six furlongs in 1.19, after leaving the first three behind in 38 1-5. GALLOPING WELL The Champagne Stakes winner, with R. Reed up. was sent half a mile, and after going fast the first furlong was not bustled to do the job in 50 4-5. He looks none the worse for his successful outing last week. Dead Sweet ran a mile from the new post in 1.50, and could have done a bit better. Value and Great Charter pleased better than Quinvardia at the end of five furlongs from the new post, taking 1.5 3-5 for the journey, the first two furlongs in 25 4-5. Prince Otto moved very freely over half a mile, which he left behind in 50 1-5.

Merry Jest and Oration hopped off from the new mile and ran to the two furlongs, the time being 1.17 4-5, the first five being run in 1.3 3-5. Melissa went four furlongs in 53 3-5. and Glenotus and Simplicitas took 54 4-5 for the same distance. Master Doon and Gold Jacket had very little between them at the end of seven furlongs, which they ran in 1.32 2-5. THE JUMPERS Peter Rosa and Lady Spalpeen ga*ve a faultless exhibition in negotiating a couple of hurdles. Blue Sky and Clockwork followed them, the latter crashing at the first. The former was slow at the obstacles, and later went over them again with Glenlight. Kamehameha went over four hurdles, giving a fair display, and Gold Rain jumped half a dozen in improved style. TRACK GOSSIP Rosenor, who has been paid up for in the Chevalier Welter on Saturdav. may not go to the post, for his owner stated this morning that it was possible that he would not race aerain, but would be sent to the stud. Rosenor is a son of Grosvenor and Rosey, and as he is only now five years old he is being given every chance. Joke Form, who was among the place-getters at the recent Bay of Plenty meeting, is now trained by A. McMillan at Te Aroha. Joke Form"was on the track this morning. RANDWICK MEETING FURTHER POSTPONEMENT SYDNEY, Wednesday. As the result of the heavy rains, the Randwick course is unfit for racing to-morrow. The committee of the Australian Jockey Club therefore decided on a further postponement, and the Sydney Cup is now fixed for Saturday. —A. and N.Z.
