PRINCESS BETTY

A FAIRY-TALE PARTY HER FIRST BIRTHDAY COUSINS TO EAT CAKE Little Princess Betty, who is one-year-old to-morrow, will have a merry birthday party although her parents are 12,000 miles away and her grandparents will also be absent. Three little Royal cousins will revel in the festivities.

By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.20 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. A certain pathos attaches to Princess Betty’s first birthday-party at Windsor Castle on Thursday. Though

HER FIRST BIRTHDAY.—The Princess Elizabeth, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, will celebrate her first birthday to-morrow. This is the latest portrait of their Majesties’ first grand-daughter. she will be the centre of a real fairytale party in a glittering palace, and

nothing will be denied her, her Royal mother and father are absent in Australia and her Royal grandparents are compelled to be absent at Cardiff for the opening of the Welsh National Museum. Hence the party will be a small affair, consisting of her wee important self and two or three little boy cousins at present staying at Windsor. They are Masters George and Gerald Lascelles, and perhaps Lady Patricia Ramsay’s small son. These are certain to appreciate the cake more than Princess Betty. However, she is a bright, bonny and observant, specimen who loves the bright, pretty things with which her room is surrounded. Her appearance and mannerisms greatly resemble those of the Duchess of York. It is known that a very special surprise packet just landed from Australia is carrying the fond mother and father’s loving wishes. Stacks of others have also ai’rived from all parts. Some from the King and Queen and the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. The Prince of Wales has also sent a parcel as well as lots of other uncles and aunts, Royal and otherwise. Princess Mary’s sons are making their first present to their little causin. Special photographs are being taken to send to the Duke and Duchess of York, while a special birthday bulletin is being wirelessed to Australia. —A. and N.Z.
