MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS

A YEAR’S PROGRESS The Mount Albert Borough Council met last evening, the mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes presiding. With reference to a petition asking for a poll on the question of rating on unimproved values, the mayor said a poll had been arranged for next Wednesday. The tender of Grinter Bros, for sewer drainage work in Mount Albert Road (Rob Roy extension), at £2,214, was accepted. Reviewing the progress of the year in his annual report, the mayor said loans had been carried for roading, £537,500; drainage, £200,000; buildings, £8,000; and reserves, etc., £4,500. The council had completed satisfactory arrangements for raising £130,000 in quarterly instalments over a period of 21 months at £5 13s 9d per cent. Less than two miles of pipe line remained to be laid to complete the water main system of the borough, over 24 miles having been laid in the past four years. The drainage work that had been carried out covered about 60 acres. The new council chambers would be ready for occupation early next month. The estimated capital value of the borough was £5,000,000, and the total revenue for the year, apart from loan debentures, was £64,500, and the expenditure, exclusive of loan works, was £57,750. Out of loans, £93,005 had been expended, while debentures representing £37,000 had been issued locally by the council.
