A TRIUMPHANT RECOVERY
HAMBERG-AMERIKA LINE A triumphant recovery of an undertaking which seemed to be shattered by the war and the financial chaos which followed it has been made by the Hamburg-Amerika Line, popularly known as the “Hapag.” The firm’s achievement also gives the direct lie to those pessimists who state that the shipping trade is dead, with little hope ot immediate recovery. A 6 per cent, dividend, the first since the stabilisation of the German currency, is the convincing proof which the shareholders have received of the revived prosperity of the Hapag. The turnover of the company has doubled in a year. The fleet was increased by the acquisition of the three Harrison liners and five cargo boats. When the new building programme of the Hapag is carried out it will have 1,030,000 tons of shipping against 1,360,000 tons in 1914.
