SHIPMENT OF BANANAS VEGETABLES STILL CHEAP The s.s. Tofua arrived yesterday morning with a large cargo of bananas, which should relieve the shortage during the past few days, when high prices have been the rule. The last shipment arrived in Auckland over a fortnight ago in an over-ripe condition. These were repacked and have been selling at from 35s to 44s a case. American oranges are selling at from 3Ss to 40s a case and have been the only variety available. Tomatoes are in steady supply and quotations have not altered to any marked extent. Hutt tomatoes are selling at 5s to 8s a case and locals range from 2s 6d to 9s, according to quality. FRUIT VALUES Prices for bes£ quality fruits at the City Auction Marts were as follow^ — Apples: Delicious, choice 6s to 7s 6d, others 3s to 4s 6d a case; Jonathans, 5s to 7s 6d; Cox’s Orange, 6s to 13s; Monroes?, 4s to 5s 6d; Ballarats, 5s 6d to 6s 9d; Northern Spy, 4s 6d to 7s Gd; Willie Sharp, 4s to ss. Most varieties of vegetables are offering in large quantities and prices have differed little from the previous quotations.
