SHIPMENT OF BANANAS VEGETABLES STILL CHEAP The s.s. Tofua arrived yesterday morning with a large cargo of bananas, which should relieve the shortage during the past few days, when high prices have been the rule. The last shipment arrived in Auckland over a fortnight ago in an over-ripe condition. These were repacked and have been selling at from 35s to 44s a case. American oranges are selling at from 3Ss to 40s a case and have been the only variety available. Tomatoes are in steady supply and quotations have not altered to any marked extent. Hutt tomatoes are selling at 5s to 8s a case and locals range from 2s 6d to 9s, according to quality. FRUIT VALUES Prices for bes£ quality fruits at the City Auction Marts were as follow^ — Apples: Delicious, choice 6s to 7s 6d, others 3s to 4s 6d a case; Jonathans, 5s to 7s 6d; Cox’s Orange, 6s to 13s; Monroes?, 4s to 5s 6d; Ballarats, 5s 6d to 6s 9d; Northern Spy, 4s 6d to 7s Gd; Willie Sharp, 4s to ss. Pears: Louise Bon, 6s 6d to 9s 6d; Packhams, 4s to 6s; Beurre Deil, 4s to 4s 6d; Clairgeau, 4s to 5s 6d: Nellis, 4s .to 8s; Beurre Bose, 4s to 6s. Cape gooseberries, 416. to 6d. Tree tomatoes, 3s 6d to 6s a case. Persimmons, 2s 6d to ss. Local tomatoes, first quality 6s to 9s a case, second quality 2s 6d to 3s 6d; Hutt tomatoes, 5s to 8s a case. Grapes, Te Kauwhata, 10s to 14s; Colman, Is to Is lOd lb; Golden Queen, Is to Is 3d lb. Repacked bananas, 35s to 44s a case. American oranges, new shipment, 38s to 40s. Local lemons, 4s to 10s a case. Passions, 2s 9d to 5s 6d a case. The market is glutted with potatoes. Local are selling from 2s 6(1 to 3s 6d a bag. Southerns, 7s 6d to 7s 9d cwt; Rangitikeis, 6s cwt. Most varieties of vegetables are offering in large quantities and prices have differed little from the previous quotations.
