LOOKED FOR TROUBLE AND FOUND IT
NOW IN HOSPITAL (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. “Because he butted into a party outside a local hotel yesterday, Patrick Parker invited trouble and got it. As a result he now lies in hospital.” So said counsel for Ernest William Veysey, when he was charged with assaulting Parker. “We will hear the evidence,” said Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Sub-Inspector Harvey: Well, the evidence is in hospital, your Worship, and he doesn’t seem to know* much about it himself. He was too drunk. Counsel said an altercation occurred at closing time. The victim asked Veysey for a match and demanded that it be struck for him. Veysey’s friend invited him around the corner, but Parker used an insulting name and Veysey hit. “He was looking for fight all round,” said counsel. Veysey said he had just come out of hospital owing to heart trouble, but this did not seem to affect his pugilistic efforts. The magistrate accepted evidence of provocation and fined accused £2 and costs.
