FOR MOUNT ALBERT
CAPT. ATWELL’S CANDIDATURE ADDRESS IN BOROUGH In furtherance of his campaign for the Mount Albert Mayoralty. Capt. TV. Atwell, a retired ex-imperial and New Zealand Army officer, held a meeting in the King George Hall. Mt. Albert, last evening, there being some 200 people present. The Hon. George Fowlds presided. Capt. Atwell outlined his policy and emphasised the fact that he was a qualified army engineer, recounting his experiences of the progress of the borough since his residence in it for 22 years. He lad particular stress on the matter of obtaining a purer supply of water for the borough, and strongly advocated the formation of a provincial water board for the Auckland suburbs. The speaker referred to the backward state of the sewerage in the borough, and advocated an early completion of the scheme. Dealing with the roads Capt. Atwell said he approved of the borough engineer's scheme for the completion and tarsealing of all the roads in the borough, and pointed out that the sum allocated for this purpose, £537,500. would not necessarily be spent by the council on the scheme its engineer had inaugurated. A unanimous vote of confidence in the speaker was carried at the close of the meeting. Capt. Atwell will address a meeting at the Morningside Hall this evening, and further meetings at ihe Theatre Royal, Edendale. at 3 p.m. on Thursday. and an open air meeting at Page's Corner, Kingsland. at 8 p.m. that day.
