PRISONERS ESCAPE
UNDER SMOKE SCREEN ONE MAN RECAPTURED (From Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. Two prisoners made a break from •Faparua Prison yesterday afternoon under cover of smoke and excitement caused by a gras fire which threatened J* 16 plantation on the prison estate. t'n man> Raymond Witting, aged 35, is s till at large. The other, named Clemenger, was recaptured at Sockburn by a force of police from Christchurch Central Station. A force of beaters was organised irom among the prisoners to put down tne fire, and at five o’cioCk 0 ’ c i oC k it was that two were missing. . .. VViL ting was last seen going in the * Oirection of the Main South Road.
