RECORD FIGURES
EASTER ON RAILWAYS BIG BUSINESS RECORDED .ARGE SUM FROM SEAT SALES Record business in passenger traffic was done by the Railway Department at Auckland during the Easter holidays. The sale of seats realised approximately £16,000, which is far better than the figures for last year, and much above what was expected. From April 9 to April 16 the following bookings were recorded on the holiday trains: 12,000 holiday excursion tickets, 10,000 seats booked and 350 berths booked. These figures do not include those for Easter Monday; neither do they include the ordinary suburban traffic which went on as usual during the holiday season. Mr. J. C. Duncan, stationmaster, has had a particularly busy time and his staff has had few moments to itself during the last few days. Mr. W. Hartley and his staff in the booking office have also spent a strenuous time attending to the bookings. Neither department has had an enviable task, and all concerned have acquitted themselves with honours. Last evening the big homeward rush set in, and eve»*y outward bound train was packed to capacity. This morning the Rotorua express was crowded and extra carriages had to be put on to cope with the excess of passengers. Even then the train steamed out of the station with many of the passengers standing.
