BLACK DAY FOR CATERPILLARS

By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyrigh Reed. 10 a.m. LONDON, Monday. A thousand school children, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, spent the holiday this afternoon carrying out a novel offensive in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Armed with bamboos studded with screws they spread out over the whole area of the park and destroyed thousands of cocoons full of caterpillar eggs. It is estimated that 5,000.000 eggs were destroyed. The attack was organised by the College of Pestology, which is planning a yearly offensive against mosquitoes as well as caterpillars.—A. and N.Z.
